Gunungkidul Regency is blessed by Allah SWT natural resources in the form of very beautiful tourist attractions. In 2017 there were 3,236,931. Foreign tourists in 2017 are 21,082. The tourism business is indeed lucrative because it can increase community economy. This study aims to examine what are the factors causing environmental damage in the tourist area of Gunungkidul Regency, how the Government of Gunungkidul Regency policies in environmentally friendly tourism development and how the concept of environmentally friendly tourism development in Gunungkidul Regency. This research is an empirical normative research. Data collection techniques using primary data and secondary data. The results showed that one of the causes of environmental damage in the tourist area of Gunungkidul Regency was the management of tourism objects that was wrong because they did not pay attention to the impact of environmental damage, there were several policies of the Government of Gunungkidul Regency in develelopment tourism, one of which was the stipulation of Gunungkidul Regency Regulation Number 5 Year 2013 on the Implementation of Tourism and one of the implementation of its implementation is the installation of Signs of the Environment in tourist attractions, and the concept of the future, it is necessary to stipulate a Regional Regulation on management of tourism that is environmentally sound along with sanctions that have a deterrent effect.
