Abstract
Background: The surface area of porosity is one of the factors that influence the mechanical strength of a dental material. Porosity is a very small part or hole in a material, there are also air bubbles in or on the surface of a material. Shear strength is one of the mechanical strengths that can be tested on a material. Good tooth restoration is a restoration that has good mechanical strength.
Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship of porosity surface area with shear strength to the attachment of indirect veneer restorations.
Method: This study used a pure laboratory experimental method. The number of samples in this study is 4 samples of premolar teeth. The data collection technique in this study was observed for each porosity using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), then shear strength tests were performed using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The statistical test used is Pearson on normally distributed data.
Result: The results of this study indicate a significant relationship between porosity surface area with conventional cement shear strength on the attachment of indirect veneer restoration with a value of p = 0.010 (p <0.05). Based on the results of these studies, it can be concluded that there is a relationship of surface area porosity with conventional cement shear strength indirect veneer restorations.
