Abstract
At present the development of technology is increasing. One technology that is developing is 3-dimensional printer technology. One of the 3 dimensional printer is filament. Filament is extruded plastic. Filament used in general is 1.75 mm in diameter. Plastics or polymers are now increasingly being used and have even replaced wood and metal materials. Plastic products have been widely used in household products to automotive products. Plastics are widely used because plastics have mild properties and are easily shaped. This study aims to determine the performance of extruder machines and determine the characterization of extrusion results by measuring diameters, densities, and microstructure photographs.
Extruder machine used has a capacity of 247.22 grams, screw rotation of 23.33 Rpm with 0.5 Hp electric motor power and has 4 heaters each has a power of 150 Watt and has a nozzle diameter of 0.98 mm. Extruder machines are used to extrude acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polypropylene (PP) and Nylon 6 plastic materials. barrels and 180 ° C, 190 ° C, 200 ° C and 210 ° C for the temperature at the nozzle. Characterization of filament extrusion results is measurement of diameter, density and photo of microstructure.
Test results can be seen that the diameter of the extruded filament for each temperature variation is different. The diameter of the extruded filament is swollen. The diameter of the extruded Filament that is closest to 1.75 mm is PP filament at a barrel temperature of 190 ° C and a nozzle temperature of 210 ° C with an average diameter of 1.64 mm. ABS plastic at a barrel temperature of 170 ° C and a stopper (nozzle) temperature of 190 ° C with an average diameter of 1.29 mm. Nylon plastic 6 at a barrel temperature of 160 ° C and a stopper (nozzle) temperature of 180 ° C with an average diameter of 1.19 mm. Filament density that corresponds to the density of the material itself is ABS filament at a barrel temperature of 170 ° C and a stopper (nozzle) temperature of 190 ° C with a density of 1.01 g / cm³. PP filament at barrel temperature of 190 ° C and nozzle temperature of 210 ° C with a density of 0.95 g / cm³. Nylon 6 filament at a barrel temperature of 160 ° C and a nozzle temperature of 180 ° C with a density of 1.09 g / cm³. For the results of microstructure photographs the higher the temperature of the extrusion process used, the fewer cavities in the filament.
