PENGARUH PERENDAMAN KAWAT STAINLESS STEEL AUSTENITIK DALAM SALIVA BUATAN TERHADAP PELEPASAN ION NIKEL
Abstract
Orthodontic wire is a component in orthodontic devices that functions as a tool that produces pressure so that it can cause tooth movement, orthodontic wire that is often used is a type of stainless steel wire. Nickel ion is one of the compositions of stainless steel wire which serves to strengthen the wire, but with direct contact between stainless steel wires and saliva will cause the release of nickel ions. This study aims to determine the effect of stainless steel wires soaked for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks on artificial saliva against the amount of Nickel (Ni) release.
This research is a laboratory experimental study, with a total sample of 25 AISI 304 stainless steel wires with a diameter of 0.7 mm and then divided into 5 groups grouped according to immersion time ie 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks, each group contains 5 wires. The study was conducted in February - March 2019 at Laboratorium Terpadu Lab. Instrumentasi, Fisika Dasar dan Kimia Dasar Universitas Islam Indonesia for the sampling process.
The results showed the effect of immersion of stainless steel wire in saliva on the amount of nickel ion release. The highest release of nickel ions is ± 0.5338 mg / L during 4 migrations of immersion.
