Abstract
In this current era of human dependence on energy sources produced from fossil fuels has led to the massive exploitation on these energy sources. One way around that by making briquettes as an alternative energy source. In other sectors coconut shells not used optimally. Waste teak furniture has a huge potential, what if developed as a raw material for making charcoal briquettes.
This study uses raw materials from waste teak furniture and coconut shell that has become charcoal then pulverized and screened with a sieve 20, 30, 40, 50 mesh. Comparison of teak 70: 30 coconut, teak 60: 40 coconut, teak 50: 50 coconut shells. Adhesive is then mixed with 25% of the total weight of 10 gram briquettes. Adhesive used is made from cornstarch. Printed with mold a diameter of 5 cm and 10 cm in height. Emphasis of 250, 500, 750 Psi. This study uses a testing Thermogravimetric analysis starting from room temperature, then thermocontroller is set at a temperature of 700C. This research also use proximate testing.
Briquetting pressure the greater the effect on combustion characteristics include the rising value of the ITFC, PT, BT and the decline in value ITVM. Then, the test results show the greater proximate briquetting pressure then increases the value of content fixed carbon and the value of the ash, and the declining value of the water content and value volatile matter. The calorific value increases with increasing pressure briquetting.
