The study on Indonesian and nation state is inseparable. Nation state is an indetity on nationality. Indonesia is a country of multy religions and ethnicity that live under the same destiny, under the Dutch colonialism. Islam is majority religion in Indonesia, but it does not mean become Islamic state. Pancasila is gentlemen agreement for founding fathers for Indonesian Ideology and formaly foundation. Ahmad Syafii Maarif, Abdurrahman Wahid and Nurcholish Madjid agreed with Pancasila’s norm, because it similar with Islamic norm. Nation state with Pancasila is not rejected by Islam and Indonesia Muslim population majority. Nationalism and nation-state is compatible with Islam. Nationalism and Islam it is two entities that support nationality, ethnicity, and religious identity in modern state. This study based on literature from Ahmad Syafii Maarif, Nurcholish Madjid and Abdurrahman Wahid in 2001 until 2018 that is composed by Muhammadiyah’s and NU’s independent intellectuals.
