      The Evaluation of Communication Skills Among Undergraduate Students in Interprofessional Education Programme

      Abstract
      BACKGROUND Communication is being considered as a core aspect of interprofessional collaborative practice. Basic communication skills was developed in common area for health profession education, but health profession students often have little knowledge about or experience with interprofessional communication. In Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, this learning experiences was being introduced and practiced by medical student and nursing student in 3rd semester. OBJECTIVE This research aims are measuring the achivement of communication skills among undergraduate students and comparing those skills between medical students and nursing students. The competency that being measured are running effective meeting, effective presentation, and giving constructive feedback. METHODS The study used descriptive analytic method with cross sectional design. Total subject of the study consisted of 80 undergraduate students, those were 44 medical and 36 nursing students. Samples were taken through simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained from tutor assessment checklist of role play communication skills RESULT This study showed that mean score of leading effective meeting, being effective participant, and being presenter among medical students were 91.54, 95.00, and 89.39, respectively. On the other hand, mean score among nursing students within leading effective meeting was 87.50, being effective participant was 92.96, and being presenter was 86.85. The mean score of all aspects among medical students was 91.99+7.13, meanwhile among nursing students was 88.99+6.76. The result of t-test indicated that p value=0.618 (p>0.05). CONCLUSION Communication skills of undergraduate students at both medical and nursing was in a good result, but medical students have better score than nursing students
