ANALISIS PROGRAM PENDIDIKAN LANJUT USIA SEBAGAI SARANA UNTUK MENGATASI MASALAH KESEPIAN PADA LANSIA
Abstract
Background: Elderly education program which based its philosophy on lifelong learning education is non-formal education based on family and society with six basic functions as the management base. The correlation between the education program towards loneliness issue indicates positive effect towards the interpersonal relations and the elderlies’ life style which mainly determines the psychological wellbeing of the elderlies.
Objective: To analyze elderly education program as media in overcoming loneliness issue in elderly.
Method: The research used mixed method with parallel convergent design.
Result: Based on the quantitative statistical analysis by Fisher’s Exact Test there is significant correlation between respondent’s activeness on elderly education program and loneliness level experienced. Qualitatively, the coping mechanism of elderlies who are active in joining the education program is more varied that the elderlies who are not active in joining the program. The response theme of the elderly towards elderly education program are the benefits they feel, the motivation for activeness, the differences with the condition before joining the program, and the obstacles experienced.
Conclusion: Elderly education program is proved effective as socialization media for elderlies, improving the elderlies’ knowledge and skills in knowledge, channeling hobbies and skills as well as making the elderlies more independent and productive.
