HUBUNGAN ANTARA DURASI MENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS (DM) DENGAN ANGKA KEJADIAN NEUROPATI DIABETIK
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a state of chronic hyperglycemia accompanied by metabolic disorders due to hormonal disturbances that cause a variety of chronic complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, heart disease, and gangrene. Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common chronic complication that occurs in patients with diabetes melitus. Complications arise as a result of the long duration of diabetes mellitus, low of sugar control, and other risk factors. Methods : This research method included in the quantitative research with observational research design and analytic cross sectional approach. Subjects of this research are diabetic patients in RSUD Kota Yogyakarta totaling 65 subjects drawn at random. Analysis of the data used chi - square 3x2 to see the relationship between the two variables. Duration of diabetes melitus 5-10 years used as a benchmark to compare the duration of <5 years and> 10 years. The research instruments used in this study are the medical record and score Diabetic Neuropathy Symptoms (DNS). Results and Discussion : The result showed 36 patients (55.4%) had complications of diabetic neuropathy and 29 (44.6%) patients were not diabetic neuropathy. Duration of diabetes melitus <5 years and 5-10 years was not associated with the incidence of diabetic neuropathy with P = 0.429 and odds ratio (OR) = 0,568. Duration of diabetes melitus 5-10 years and> 10 years was not associated with the incidence of diabetic neuropathy with P = 0.382 and OR = 0.605. Both OR showed no significant association.
Conclusion : This research concluded that there is no relation between the duration of diabetes mellitus (DM) with the incidence of diabetic neuropathy
