      Abstract
Background: Preeclampsia is the third largest cause of maternal mortality (MMR) in Indonesia alongside to bleeding and infection. Nearly 30% of maternal deaths are caused by preeclampsia. Obesity is one of the risk factor in increasing the risk of preeclampsia about 2-3 fold. To diagnose obesity in pregnancy, the measurements of mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) is recommended as a screening in pregnancy complications. Objective: To compare the correlation of mid-upper arm circumference in pregnant women with obesity and in pregnant women without obesity to the incidence of preeclampsia. Methods: A retrospective observational analytic was conducted with cross sectional method. The samples were pregnant women who checks up at Tegalrejo Public health center. 92 cases are collected based on visitor book. It’s analyzed by Chi-Square test with the significance of p <0,05. Results: There was a correlation between the mid-upper arm circumference of pregnant women and the incidence of preeclampsia (p = 0,002). Women with upper arm circumference’s size > 33 cm are 11 times less likely to have preeclampsia (PR = 0.091, 95% CI = 0,012-0,676). Conclusion : Mid-upper arm circumference is not a major risk factor of preeclampsia.
