      Abstract
      Diabetes mellitus is defined as metabolics diseases characterized by hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities or disorders of insulin secretion, insulin disruption, and / or both. The risk factors for diabetes mellitus are BMI ≥23 kg/m², poor physical activity, family history with diabetes, hypertension, and age ≥45 years. The purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors of diabetes mellitus in adults with obesity in Dusun Kalirandu. This was descriptive study with cross sectional approach. The sample of this study was 97 respondents with BMI ≥23 kg/m² who has selected through accidental sampling. The Instruments in this study used the physical exercise activity questionnaire, weight scales, and height measurement tool with the data were analyzed by descriptive statistic. The results of this study showed that the percentage of high risk for diabetes mellitus based on family history was 16.5%, hypertension was 42,3%, age was 51,5%, and physical inactivity was 100%. The nurses are suggested to increase the people’s knowledge related to the physical activity and create collaborative program with community leaders to improve physical activity in community. Further research is needed to promote physical activity to decrease the risk of diabetes mellitus.
