Central diastema is a gap which is located in the middle of the anterior teeth measuring more than 0,5 mm between the adjacent dental proximal surface. Purpose of Study: To find out the prevalence, etiology, and radiographic visual of central diastema among a sample of Dentistry Students in UMY. Research Method: The type of the research used was observational descriptive with cross sectional design. The subjects of the research were 21 students experiencing central diastema out of 432 dentistry students in UMY, selected using total sampling technique according to the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. Intraoral and periapical radiographic test was given to each student. Research Result: The central diastema prevalence is as much as 5 %, consisting 13 in females and 8 in males. There are 13 (61,9 %) students with high labialis frenulum etiology, 6 (28,6 %) students have central diastema family history and 2 (9,5 %) have both etiologists. Conclusion: Central diastema commonly occurs among females. Genetic can cause central diastema. High labialis frenulum is the most frequent etiological factor that causes central diastema, in which there is radiolucent area and Vshaped structure or small sphere at the edge of sutura maxillaris in the radiographic visual.
