PREVALENSI, ETIOLOGI, DAN GAMBARAN RADIOGRAFI DIASTEMA SENTRAL PADA MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN DOKTER GIGI DI UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Background: Diastema is generally an unpleasant problem and occurs in adults’
permanent dental that it influences patients’ smiles and becomes an aesthetic
concern. Central diastema is a gap which is located in the middle of the anterior
teeth measuring more than 0,5 mm between the adjacent dental proximal surface.
Purpose of Study: To find out the prevalence, etiology, and radiographic visual
of central diastema among a sample of Dentistry Students in UMY.
Research Method: The type of the research used was observational descriptive
with cross sectional design. The subjects of the research were 21 students
experiencing central diastema out of 432 dentistry students in UMY, selected
using total sampling technique according to the criteria of inclusion and exclusion.
Intraoral and periapical radiographic test was given to each student.
Research Result: The central diastema prevalence is as much as 5 %, consisting
13 in females and 8 in males. There are 13 (61,9 %) students with high labialis
frenulum etiology, 6 (28,6 %) students have central diastema family history and 2
(9,5 %) have both etiologists.
Conclusion: Central diastema commonly occurs among females. Genetic can
cause central diastema. High labialis frenulum is the most frequent etiological
factor that causes central diastema, in which there is radiolucent area and Vshaped
structure or small sphere at the edge of sutura maxillaris in the
radiographic visual.
