dc.description.abstract | Background. Self medication can be defined as the use of drugs by people to overcome illness without the intervention of a doctor. Self medication has many advantages if used appropriate and one of them can relieve symptoms of the illnesses effectively. But if its use is not appropriate, such as polypharmacy, the wrong use, consume too often, long using and excessive dosage can increase the resistance of pathogens and generally causing a serious health threat, such as adverse effect, prolonged suffering, addiction and even experienced severe illnes. Self medication among medical students has a higher prevalence than the amateur, because medical students have the knowledge and ability to diagnose himself and also have more access to use of drugs. So that medical students have a higher risk of drug abuse. The purpose of this study was describe the behavior and to compare behavior of self medication in the 8th semester the faculty of medicine, nursing, dentist and pharmacy
Method. The study was using descriptive analytical design with quantitative approach. The sample of this study consisted of 98 student, were summed from nursing 38, dentist 26, and pharmacy 34 at University muhammadiyah of Yogyakarta. Instrument of this study questioner and checklist.
Results. The finding of this study showed there was no difference between each group (p=0,14 (p>0,05). Student nursing, dentist, and pharmacy department was apply self medication with good enough category.
Conclusion. Nursing, dentist, and pharmacy department students was apply self medication with mean 73,18%, 72,08%, 75,50%, and comparison didn’t have any difference each other (p=0,14 (p>0,05). | en_US |
