PERSEPSI MAHASISWA TAHUN PERTAMA DI UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA TERHADAP FENOMENA LGBT
Abstract
Background : Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) is a group of people who involved into same-sex relationships and make a controversy in the society. Adolescent period is vulnerable for being LGBT because in this period they were looking for self identity and can increase the number of stress between LGBT youths due to the stigma of the society toward this sexual minorities. The research need to be done to find out the perception among adolescents against this phenomenon.
Methods : Design of this research is qualitative descriptive study to know deeper into the perceptions and experiences of participants through in-depth interviews with participants totalling 14 persons were selected through purposive technique sampling based on characteristics. Data were analyzed through qualitative approach using the technical thematic content analysis.
Result : In this study obtained 9 themes regarding the perception of first year students toward LGBT phenomenon they are; creating gaps that consist of 4 categories, defend the ego that consist of 3 categories, potentially to thrive that consist of 7 categories, incapable to comprehend religion belief that consist of 2 categories, the desire in self that consist of 4 categories, passively affected that consist of 9 categories, rejected from certain society that consist of 2 categories, the way to come back has 2 sub themes and 4 categories, and prevention efforts has 2 sub themes and 4 categories.
Conclusion : The perception of first year Students toward LGBT phenomenon in University Residence get 9 themes that appear from the idea of participants they are; creating gaps, defend the ego, potentially to thrive, incapable to comprehend religion belief, the desire in self, passively affected, rejected from certain society, the way to come back, and prevention efforts
