dc.descriptionTeaching practice would be a confusing and challenging phase at least according to researcher himself and other student-teachers’ experience. Then once they know the material to be taught, they are also still confuse because they do not know what method they should use in the learning process. Furthermore, some of the student-teachers used genre based approach on their teaching practice. The researcher interested to find the student-teachers’ perception towards the implementation of the genre based approach in teaching practice. In this research, researcher’s used qualitative as a method in conducting the research. The research itself was conducted in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The researcher start collecting data on August 2014and finished it on April 2015. For the participants, researcher’s choose four students of English Education Department batch 2010. Furthermore, the phase of the data collection method is starting with previewing the literature review, conducting interview, transcribing data, member checking, interpreting and coding analysis and ended by writing research report. The data result of this research revealed that genre-based approach is a method that is beneficial for the student-teachers’. In the data obtained from the participants, researcher found that all the student-teachers’s know about the genre-based approach and its learning cycle’s namely building knowledge of the field (BKOF), modelling of the text (MOT), join construction of the text (JCOT) and independent construction of the text (ICOT). They know the genre based approach ix STUDENT-TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION ON THE GENRE BASED APPROACH from their study at university in the second year. Here, the researcher also found some findings related to the implementation of the genre based approach in teaching practice. The findings are; genre based approach is good to apply in the teaching practice, genre based approach makes the teaching and learning more structured and the genre based approach is easy to practice for the student-teachers.en_US
