PENGARUH KONSUMSI KOPI TERHADAP SINDROMA MATA KERING (DRY EYE)
Abstract
Background : Dry eye is a disorder of the tear film which occurs due to tear
deficiency or excessive tear evaporation. Many factors can cause dry eye and one
of them is coffee. Coffee is known to decrease secretion of the tear film and affect
dry eye for approximately 2 hours. Decreased secretion of the tear film through
the mechanism releasing noradrenalin can affect stimulation symphathetic
nervous on eyes until affect decreased secretion of tear film. The research is
necessary to learn about the effect of coffee consumption to dry eye syndrome.
Method : The research was observational analytic with cross sectional on 60
samples men and women with ages between 40-75 years. In this research, the
samples fill the questionnare and the secretion of the tear film has been done by
Schirmer Test II. The data has been analyzing by SPSS 16.0 using Chi-Square
test to find out about the effect of coffee consumption to dry eye syndrome.
Results : This research obtained that the most ages group is in the ages between
40-49 years group (31,7%). The respondents who consume pure coffe is 50%, the
respondents who consume not pure coffe is 45% and who consume both of them
is 5%. The results Chi-Square test obtained that no relation about the effect of
coffee consumption to dry eye syndrome with the p value = 0,067.
Conclusion : It can be concluded that there is no relation about the effect of
coffee consumption to dry eye syndrome.
