HUBUNGAN ANTARA TINGKAT PENDIDIKAN DAN PENGETAHUAN IBU DENGAN STATUS GIZI PADA ANAK USIA 1-5 TAHUN
Abstract
Background: Indonesia has an infant mortality rate of 35 per 1,000 live births
and under-five mortality rate of 46 per 1,000 live births. About half of infant and
child deaths may be associated with malnutrition that often begins with a low
birth weight. Malnutrition in children includes the protein energy malnutrition
and the lack of nutrients such as vitamin A, iron, iodine and zinc. The mortality
rate in children aged 1-5 years in Indonesia is also highest in the Association of
South East Asian Nations. This suggests that growth disorders related to children
nutritional status are still considered serious. One of the obstacles faced in
managing good nutritional status in children is the lack of maternal knowledge
about nutrition. The lack of maternal nutritional knowledge and basic education
are the most important fundamental factor because it greatly affects the level of
ability or intellectual property of a person.
Aim: To determine the correlation between maternal education level and
nutritional knowledge with nutritional status in children aged 1-5 years.
Methods: This study was conducted using analytic observational study with
cross-sectional design. It involved 50 children aged 1-5 years including their
mothers in pre-schools in Tamantirto village, Kasihan Bantul districts,
Yogyakarta. Data analysis was done using Spearman correlation test and
multiple correlation test.
Results: Most study participants had high education level (80%), good nutritional
knowledge (66%) and normal nutritional status (70%). In the analysis result
using Spearman correlation test showed that the maternal education level’s
coefficient correlation was 0,334 (weak and positive correlation) and maternal
nutritional knowledge level’s coefficient correlation was 0,342 (weak and positive
correlation).
