Abstract
Family is one of the most important aspects of human life. This condition
is resulted from a family that works as the first group acquired by each individual.
The existence of transvestites in the family is a historical process, the establishing
process of transvestite personality is a quite long process. As we know,
transvestites are basically having personal conflict since their childhood, however,
in the time they try to state and express the condition; a rejection from family is
frequently occurring, thus, it made the transvestites to leave their home and live
independently. However, there are also transvestites who being accepted in their
families through the management process that has been agreed in prior.
This research was using descriptive qualitative-type of method with the
informants are derived through accidental sampling in which the researcher and
the informant acquire comfortable accessibility. The data is collected through
interview and observation techniques that have been conducted by the researcher
towards two family members that have family members live as transvestites.
The results acquired from this research are the emergence of several
conflict sources, one of them is the principle difference between family members
in which the form of conflict is the intimidation that comes from the extended
family. On the second informant, the conflict is emerged from the difference of
values embraced by the family; which violated and resulted in a rejection towards
the transvestite of the related family. The forms of conflict that occurred are
physical abuses; hit and kicked that cause the transvestite to take a decision to
leave the home. During the process, there are several conflict managements that
used by the four informants namely through assertive communications style
(compromising), non-aggressive (avoiding) and aggressive (avoiding). Aside from
that, there is a table that describes the factors that influence the conflict
managements.
