THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SPERM SURVIVAL TEST (SPERST) AND SPERM MORPHOLOGY WITH FERTILIZATION RATE IN TUBE BABY’S PROGRAM PATIENTS
Abstract
Infertility is when a woman is not pregnant despite having sexual intercourse without
protection for one year. In Indonesia there are 15% of reproducstive age couple (15-40 year
old) experience infertility problems. The examination of sperm analysis conducted to determine
the cause of male infertility before IVF (invitro fertilitation) program.
This research was conducted in November-December 2007 at the clinic RSUP Permata
Hati. Dr Sardjito Yogyakarta. This study is a nonexperimental retrospective study using
secondary data from medical records patient that participate IVF program. The data consist
of the result of sperm morphology and SPERST test. Data were analyzed by correlation
Spearman test to know the relationship between sperm morphology and the results of SPERST
test with fertilization success rate.
The results of this study show that 60% of the 35 IVF program participants ages 30-
40 year, 77.2% of whom had sperm normospermia profile. Laboratory data showed 57.2%
morphological rate are > 60% with 80% good fertilization rate, 88.6% 24-hour of SPERST
test rate are > 50% with 70.9% good fertilizer, and 28, 6% 48-hour SPERST test are > 25%
with 80% better fertilization.. Statistical calculations show that the relationship between
fertilization rate with the results of laboratory tests in a row is as follows: sperm morphology
examination (correlation coefficient 0.399; P=0.018), SPERST 24 hours (correlation coefficient
of 0.432; P= 0.010) and SPERST 48 hours (correlation coefficient 0.215; P= 0.216). It can
be concluded that there was a significant relationship between sperm morphology examination
and inspection 24 hours SPERST with fertilization rate.
