HUBUNGAN KECERDASAN EMOSIONAL DENGAN HASIL PRESTASI BELAJAR MAHASISWA KOMUNIKASI DAN PENYIARAN ISLAM ANGKATAN 2016 UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
This study aims to identify the emotional intelligence level of students in Islamic
Communication and Broadcasting study program with major counseling of cohort
2016, identify student’s academic achievement, and testing the correlation
between its emotional intelligence and academic achievement. Data of students
emotional intelligence level obtained using a Likert model questionnaire/scale
constructed based on Goleman’s theory. Based on the theory, there are five
constructs of emotional intelligence, i.e. self-awareness, self-regulation, social
skill, empathy, and motivation. Student’s academic achievement is based on their
GPA (Grade Point Average) in the first semester of academic year 2017/2018.
The correlation tested by Product Moment Correlation Test. The research method
in this study is the quantitative research method. Subjects of this study are
students of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting with major counseling in
cohort 2016 at academic year 2017/2018 (n=69). Statistical analysis shows that
level of significance of the correlation between emotional intelligence level of
students in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting study program with major
counseling of cohort 2016 and their academic achievement is p=0,029. The level
of significance lower than 0,05 show that there is a significant correlation between
two variables. The positive value of coefficient correlation shows that the
correlation between two variables is a positive correlation. The result of the study
shows that there is a significant correlation between emotional intelligence level
ofstudents in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting study program with major
counseling of cohort 2016 and their academic achievement at academic year
2017/2018. The higher the level of emotional intelligence, the higher the
academic achievement and conversely.
