PENGARUH ASPAL DAN KARET BEKAS BERGRADASI TERHADAP NILAI MODULUS ELASTISITAS LAPISAN BALAS
Abstract
Scrap tire and asphalt could be used in the ballast layer to increase the life
service and reduce the maintenance cost of the conventional ballast layer. The
purpose of the research is to identify the characteristic of the ballast layer
according to its elastic modulus, deformation, and abrasion. The method used was
the compression test with four types of specimen, which were ballast without
modification (sample I), ballast with graded scrap rubber (sample II), ballast with
asphalt (sample III), and ballast with graded scrap rubber and asphalt (sample IV).
The sample was modelled in a ballast box with the dimension of 400 x 300 x 200
mm. The percentage of graded scrap tire and asphalt was 10% and 3%,
respectively. The result indicated that the addition of scrap tire could improve the
deformation and elasticity material. However, it could reduce the abrasion of
materials. Besides, the utilisation of binding material also could become the filler
in the mixture and then increase the stiffness of the ballast mixture
