PENGARUH TERAPI SPIRITUAL EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECNIQUE (SEFT) TERHADAP PENURUNAN TINGKAT INTENSITAS FOBIA SPESIFIK
Abstract
Background: Phobia is an irrational and intense fear that someone can experience specifically towards something, a situation, or an activity. Phobia has 3 main categories. Specific phobia is an irrational fear toward an object, situation, or activity, such as bacteria, air travel, or bug. Social phobia is an irrational fear about being publicly humiliated when doing activities such as writing, eating, or talking. Agoraphobia, which is a form of panic disorder, is a fear being in open public place such mall or amusement park. A person who suffered from specific phobia, can have an intense fear towards an airplane. The most known therapy for treating phobia is desensitization. But this method requires significant amount of time. This study aims to identify the effect of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) to reduce treat phobia specific.
Method: This study uses quantitative approach with quasi experimental two group pretest-post test with control group design. Samples were recruited using non-probability sampling. 20 respondents were divided into two groups: 10 respondents as the control group and 10 respondents as the intervention group. Level of anxiety in intervention group and control group were measured using Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS). Intervention group was given SEFT (set up, tune in, and tapping) before level of depression in both groups were measured again using SUDS. Data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon test.
Result: The average of pretest and post test score in the control group were 78 and 83 respectively, while in the intervention group were 76.5 and 27 respectively. Wilcoxon test result analysis between levels of depression before and after SEFT intervention in the intervention group showed p=0.007 (p<0.05), while in the control group showed p=0.059 (p>0.05).
Conclusion: There were significant differences between levels of anxiety before and after SEFT intervention in the intervention group. This research benefits that SEFT can be used to reduce anxiety level in patients with specific phobia.
