PENGARUH pH SALIVA DAN LAJU ALIRAN SALIVA TERHADAP STATUS KARIES GIGI ANAK USIA 8-9 TAHUN PADA SDN KASIHAN BANTUL TAHUN 2017
Abstract
Background: Children aged 8-9 years old are susceptible to dental caries because
children at that age, children have habbit like consuming sweet foods in high
frequency which increases the potential risk of caries. The characteristic of saliva
such as salivary pH and salivary flowrate play an important role in the process of
caries occurrence.
Research Objective: To know the effect of salivary pH and salivary flow rate as
the factor of caries risk factor to the children with the age between 8-9 years old at
SDN Kasihan Bantul
Research Method: The research type was anlytic observational with cross
sectional approach. The subject in this research was the children with age of 8-9
years old at the II, III, and IV class at SDN Kasihan Bantul which were chosen by
using simple random sampling method with the total of 60 children. The data
analysis used was Mann Whitney Test to know the effect of salivary pH variable
and salivary flow rate variable to the status of children’s dental caries. The logistic
regression test was used to know the most influential variable to the dental caries
status.
Research Result: The result of Mann Whitney Test, there was a p value of 0,001
for the salivary pH effect with DMFS and 0,006 for the salivary flow rate effect
with DMFS, so that the salivary pH and salivary flow rate were the factors that
influence dental caries to the children with the age of 8-9 years old. The
regression logistic test obtained p value for 0,000 to the salivary pH which
meaned that pH was more influential to the dental caries of children with the age
of 8-9 years old.
Conclusion: the degree of saliva acidity or salivary pH was positively assosiated
to the dental caries to children with the age of 8-9 years old.
