KOMUNIKASI ANTAR BUDAYA MAHASISWA PATANI (THAILAND) DAN MAHASISWA INDONESIA DI UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
In today's modern era, technological, transportation and information advances make it easier for
humans to move from one place to another. The ease can be felt and utilized as shifting from one
country to another. It was also handled by Patani students (Thailand) whom some of them chose
the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta as a place to study. This study aims to find out the
problems that arise in intercultural communication between Patani and Indonesian students at the
Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. This study uses the qualitative approach. Data
collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis used
is qualitative descriptive analysis. There were four respondents in this study, namely two
Indonesian students and two Patani students. The results show that communication occurred
between Patani and Indonesian students will gradually make it easier for both of them to find out
information about the surrounding culture. Besides, Patani students use verbal and nonverbal
communication more often. Also, mutual respect between the two becomes the main reason for
Patani and Indonesian students to interact more efficiently.
