INTERAKSI SOSIAL KEAGAMAAN MUSLIM TIONGHOA DI KOTA SINGKAWANG
Abstract
Indonesia is a multiethnicity nation. At least 931 ethnic groups and 731 indigenous
languages live in Indonesia. Some ethnic groups are major ethnic and another minor
ethnic. Examples of the major ethnic group are Javanese, Sundanese, Madurese, Malays,
Balinese, Minangkabau, Batak, Dayak, Bugis, and Chinese. The culture of Chinese as
general and also in Indonesia is seen by many people has a big gap with Islamic teachings.
Interactions between ethnicity will result in integration, but sometimes they bring conflicts
too. Social interaction between Chinese and other ethnic groups is good in the City of
Singkawang. A factor relates to that condition is Islam. It helps Chinese in Indonesia to
integrate and blend into indigenous ethnic groups. Usually, a Muslim Chinese is seen as an
indigenous people. There are few communities of Muslim Chinese in Indonesia. An
individual of them faces many obstacles to embrace Islam. Therefore, it is interesting to
study "Religious and Social Interaction of Chinese Muslims in Singkawang City”. It is
studied using Interaction Theory as the basis for discussion. Research approach in the
study is qualitative approach by observation, interview, and documentary. The participants
of the study are 4 (four) Muslims Chinese. The result of the study is containing a moral
and Islamic message that is valuable to be studied.
