      Abstract
      Background: Smoking is one of the problems in society which is difficult to be resolved, moreover, it is aggravated by the effects of globalization. In 2011, six million deaths each year are caused by smoking, including the passive smoker. The number of smokers in Indonesia continues to grow, which is dominated by the age of above 15 years. Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) is one of the learning process places that implement a smoke-free campus policy which prohibits smoking in college students, however, there are people who still violate the rule until today. Objective: To determine how the students’ attitudes of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta toward a smoke-free campus policy. Methods: This Research is a qualitative study with the phenomenological approach. The data were taken using group discussions, in-depth interviews, and observation. Total sample which were 17 participants they area student and security was determined by purposive sampling technique. Results: Students who were active smokers agreed and disagreed on KBBR, meanwhile, students who were passive smoker all agreed. It was influenced by various factors: the lack of prohibition signs, resources of KBBR, subject knowledge, environmental influences and the influenced of others. Conclusion : There is a difference of support in active smokers who have agreed to KBBR attitude, that support and does not support KBBR. While in passive smokers attitude of all students agree and support KBBR
