Abstract
This research aims to find out the excellent school strategies in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta to reveal the obstacles in realizing the school as an excellent school through a case study in SMP Muhamadiyah 2 Yogyakarta and to find out the way to solve obstacles in excellent school in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta. This research used qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique done is analysis descriptive by applying the stages of data reduction or data collection, data display, and conclusion drawing as well as data verification.
The results reveal that the excellent school strategies as a case study in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta can be seen from input, transparent and accountable financial management, Human Resources Management by holding training seen from curriculum process applied has been in accordance with the standardization, school policies such as the featured programs like tahfidz, language, science, and ICT class, and high academic success outcomes. The obstacles in realizing excellent school as a case study in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta are expensive financial requirement, broken facilities, the complain of 5-days-school policy, teacher’s inadequate knowledge on ICT, the students boredom on Curriculum 2013, monotonous learning, drop-out students, indiscipline actions, and inadequate security. The way to solve the obstacles in realizing excellent school as a case study in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta is scholarship grant for the outstanding and less fortunate students. In addition, the school has provided the resources to fix the broken facilities, IT training and intensive guide for teachers having difficulties in IT mastery, provision of various method and media so that the materials can be understood by the students, punishment and teachers’ assertiveness in handling students violating the rules.
