IMPLIKASI PENYELENGGARAAN PIALA DUNIA TAHUN 2014 TERHADAP SEKTOR PARIWISATA DI BRAZIL
Abstract
The main objective of this study is to analyze the implications of organizing the World Cup 2014 in Brazil in the tourism sector. The World Cup is the biggest championship in the branch of football. In some case, football makes the right target in international relations, competitions among nations, as well as an opportunity to enhace the bussiness sector.
Tourism is one of the important sectors in Brazil to increase its economy. By 2012, Brazil was able to achieve second world rank in the number of foreign tourism visit. Homewer, after president Dilma Rouseff cut the federal budget for tourism, the number decreased significanly. Michel Tamer who replaced as Brazilian President when Dilma Rouseff stepped down after involved in corruption scandal, concerned to boost up the tourism sector. President Michel Tamer obviously tried hard to take benefit from Brazil oportunity to hosting the World Cup even in 2014 to increase its tourism sector.
This study uses Cultural Diplomacy theory to explain the effect of hosting a cultural event on its economy. By examing the relations between Brazils goverment policy to host the World Cup and its impact on the tourism sector, the author found that a succesfull hosting of the World Cup in 2014 created the significanly omprovement on Brazils tourism, and it turn, is a positive support to Brazils economic growth.
