PENGARUH MOISTURE CONTENT TERHADAP SIFAT TARIK DAN KETAHANAN KEJUT POLYAMIDE 6
Abstract
Moisture content is water content in a material and is expressed in percent (%). One of material can be used for the moisture content process is polyamide 6. Polyamide 6 is used because it quickly absorbs moisture content, is a strong material, and is abrasion resistant. This research was conducted to determine the effect of moisture content on the tensile properties and impact test of polyamide 6 material.
This research was conducted by making multipurpose specimens according to ISO 527-2 standard from polyamide 6 granules made using injection molding machines. The injection molding process is a method of forming thermoplastic material in which the material is melted in a barrel and then injected into the mold through the nozzle into a mold that is cooled by water so that it hardens and then the specimen is removed by the ejector. The moisture content process is carried out using a dry variation of 0.2%, open air 1%, steam 5%, and boiled 5.5%. Specimen testing is carried out by tensile test according to the standard (ISO 527-2) and impact test according to the standard (ISO 179-1).
The results of this study obtained tensile strength values on polyamide 6 with a dry treatment variation of 0.2% at 49.88 MPa, open air treatment at 47.9 MPa, steam treatment at 30.92 MPa, and boiled treatment at 30.34 MPa. The value of impact test variations in dry treatment is 3.90 kJ/m², open air treatment is 6.4 kJ/m², steam treatment is 18.52 kJ/m², boiled treatment is 49.63 kJ/m². Based on the results obtained above it can be concluded that the higher the value of moisture content in polyamide 6, the lower the strength but will be more resilient (not easily broken).
