PENGARUH pH SALIVA TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK ELASTIK LATEK ORTODONTI UKURAN ¼ inci 4,5oz
Abstract
Background: Elastic latex rubber is a component of fixed orthodontic active appliance. pH, temperature and tensile strength are the factors that cause a decrease in tensile strength in fixed orthodontics appliance.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of salivay pH towards elastic latex strength orthodontic size of 1/4inchi 4.5oz.
Method: The design of this study was an experimental laboratory. 30 orthodontic elastic bands into 3 groups, each group consisting of 10 samples. Elastic orthodontic rubber was installed on the jig board and then each group was immersed in acidic, neutral and alkaline saliva and then put into an incubator for 24 hours at 37°C. Measurements were made using Universal Testing Machine. The results of the study were tested using Man Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results: The results showed immersion in artificial salivary pH, there were differences before and after the study which indicated an effect of decreasing the tensile strength of elastic latek rubber (p <0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference (p <0.05) on immersion at all. Followed by Mann-Whitney analysis at pH 7 and 8 was not have differences in decreasing tensile strength. While the pH of 5 and 7 and also pH 5 and 8 has a significant reduction effect.
Conclusion:
There is an effect of decreasing the tensile strength of orthodontic latex elastic rubber at all pH of artificial saliva for 24 hours, the highest decrease occurred at pH 5 acid.
