Abstract
In curriculum 2013, character building has two dimensions, namely spiritual
and social attitudes. Spiritual attitudes include aspects of beliefs, worship,
appreciation, knowledge, and religious teaching experiences of students. Social
attitudes that include aspects of consciousness to determine actions in social
activities need to be taught early. Curriculum 2013 is a thematic integrative based
learning that focuses on the potential and character development of each student
as a result of the synergy between educators taking place in schools, families and
communities.
This research aims to examine the method implemented at Muhammadiyah
Elementary School of Sapen and the roles of students’ parents in teaching values
of spiritual and social attitudes. Stratified random sampling was carried out in this
research to select the research sample. This is a qualitative descriptive research in
which the data were collected from desk study, documentation, questionnaire and
interview. The collected data were analyzed using interactive analysis technique
consisting of three related activities namely data reduction, data display and
conclusion drawing/verification. In addition, psychological and social approaches
were also used to analyze the data.

Elementary School of Sapen in teaching the values of spiritual and social attitudes
is based on participatory management method. This is a holistic framework for
teaching the students spiritual and social values that involves students, teachers,
parents and stakeholders, This participatory management method is based on
religion normative approach consisting of three main points namely man,
material, and money.

still based on imperative method. The implementation of this method is in high
category of 63 %. Parents who focus more on exemplary are 37%. The level of
success in the spiritual attitude is quite good that is B or the average of 3.1.
However, in a spiritual attitude, items of tolerance for worship are not good, that
is C or 2.9 compared to other spiritual attitudes. Meanwhile, the level of parents’
success in teaching social value is also quite good with an average value of 3.3 or
B. In the social attitudes, the lowest value is a caring attitude whose value is 3.7 or
A revealing that the value is very good.
