PATIENT-CENTERED CARE: UPAYA PENINGKATAN KEBERHASILAN TERAPI PASIEN INFERTILITAS MELALUI PENDETEKSIAN KUALITAS HIDUP, TINGKAT DEPRESI, DAN TINGKAT KECEMASAN
Abstract
Background: Infertility is a problem that frequently experienced by couples in Indonesia, also around the world. Infertility is associated with mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression which affect the life quality of infertile patients. This condition causes a great deal of pressure, especially regarding to biological, psychological, social, economic, cultural, and relationship conditions.The study about correlation between quality of life with depression and anxiety using FertiQoL instrument has never been investigated in Indonesia.
Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate correlation between quality of life and depression and anxiety levels, also to investigate whether patient-centered care concept is needed in management of infertility or not.
Methods: This study used mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative method was cross sectional study. Patients filled the questioner after signing informed consent and clear explanations. Quality of life is measured by FertiQoL, while depression and anxiety are measured by HADS. This study involves 200 infertile patients who meet the criteria. The respondents of this study are selected by using the purposive sampling technique. The data analysis of this study used Spearman, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis. The qualitative method used in depth interview technique to get data about the role of patient centered care concept in infertility management. The number of respondents depends on data saturation.
Results: There is a significant correlation between quality of life with depression and anxiety within the entire FertiQoL domain (p<0,001). Although they have negative feelings due to external effect, patients are positive because of family support. Patients try to get complete information from other doctors in order to succeed in having children. Health care services are currently not comprehensive, ie doctors do not work in teams in infertility management.
Conclusion: Quality of life affects depression and anxiety in infertile patients. Respondents hope that infertility management will be more comprehensive with patient-centered care concept in the future
