PERBEDAAN PENENTUAN USIA DENGAN METODE DEMIRJIAN DAN BLENKIN-TAYLOR
Abstract
Background: Informations about disaster’s victims especially about age, can be
obtained from the victims’ teeth. Age estimation methods based on teeth
information are assorted, among them are Demirjian method and Blenkin-Taylor
method.
Purpose: The aim of this research is to ascertain the difference in accuracy
between Demirjian method and Blenkin-Taylor method of age determination in
Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Methods: This research is an analytical observational study with cross sectional
study design. 95 radiographs are used (48 are male radiographs and 47 are
female radiographs) and counted by Demirjian method and Blenkin-Taylor
method to acquire dental age estimations. Statistical analysis using Independent-
Samples T Test SPSS 16,0 for Window is run to discover the difference of
chronological age and dental age.
Results: There is no significant difference (p>0,05) between chronological age
and dental age in Demirjian method (difference is -0,0458 year for male and -
0,0638 for female). Insignificant difference also found in Blenkin-Taylor method
(-0,1385 year for male and -0,0830 year for female).
Conclusions: There is an insignificant difference between dental age using
Demirjian method and chronological age. Male group is underestimation, which
means that dental age estimated slower than the chronological age, and female
group is overestimation, means that dental age estimated faster than the
chronoloical age. Insignificant difference also found between dental age using
Blenkin-Taylor method and chronological age. Both male and female group are
underestimations, which means that dental age estimated slower than the
chronological age.
