IDENTIFIKASI CARIES RISK ASSESSMENT PADA ANAK TUNANETRA DI SLB NEGERI 1 BANTUL YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Background: Dental Caries is the biggest problem that faced by the population in
Indonesia and other developing countries in the field of oral and dental health.
The caries prevalence in Indonesia reaches 80%. Blind children are at risk of
having a worse oral and dental health status than children with normal vision due
to lack of visualization to understand and master the techniques of dental and oral
hygiene practices in blind children.
Objective: This study aims to determine Caries Risk Assessment in blind children
in SLB 1 Bantul Yogyakarta. In the research conducted Caries Risk Assessment
using the method of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in the form of
questions in the form of questionnaires addressed to parents or guardians and
followed by intraoral examination in children which included examination of
salivary flow rate.
Method: In the research conducted Caries Risk Assessment using the method of

study is a descriptive observational study with cross-sectional design and was
carried out in children with special needs blind people in SLB 1 Bantul
Yogyakarta as many as 17 people.
Results: The results showed that 76.5% of blind children in SLB Negeri 1 Bantul
Yogyakarta had high caries risk levels, 5.9% had moderate caries risk levels, and
17.6% had low caries risk levels.
Conclusion: Most blind children in SLB 1 Bantul Yogyakarta have high caries
risk levels.
