HUBUNGAN COPING STRATEGIES DENGAN TINGKAT STRES PADA MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PROFESI DOKTER GIGI FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN DAN ILMU KESEHATAN UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
Background: Dental education is an integral part of education that consists of
academic program and professional program which aims to create competent
dentist graduates. The system that applied in the dental profession education
which very complex is the reason for the high level of stress on students. Stress
levels can affect physical and psychological conditions. One of the natural selfmanagement
in reducing stress is coping strategies. This method is carried out
intentionally or unintentionally by every individual who experiences stress.
Research Objective: To find out the relationship between coping strategies and
stress level of the students in Clerkship Program School of Dentistry, Faculty of
Medicine and Health Science, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Research Method: The research design was an analytical observational with a
cross-sectional approach. The sample was 87 students in Clerkship Program
School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Universitas
Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta with a stratified sampling technique. The research
data were found from the filling of the stress level questionnaire of DASS
(Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale) and the coping strategies questionnaire of
Brief Cope. The data analysis used was Spearman correlation test.
Result: The result showed that most of the student's stress level was very high and
female students had a higher stress level than males. The relationship between
coping strategies had N (r):0,361 and significance (p)<0.05, which means that
there is a relationship between each variable and the relationship is weak.
Conclusion: Based on the research result, it could be concluded that there was a
significant relationship between coping strategies and stress level of the students
in Clerkship Program School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health
Science, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
