PENGARUH PENGASUHAN POSITIF DAN KEPRIBADIAN AGREEABLENESS TERHADAP KETERLIBATAN ORANG TUA DALAM PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER SISWA MELALUI MEDIATOR RELIGIOSITAS
Abstract
Parental Engagement is an important factor in the success of students’
character education in schools. The objectives of the research are (1) testing
the theoretical model of the effect of positive parenting and Agreeableness
personality toward parental engagement in students’ character education
through religiosity mediator, (2) testing the effect of exogenous variable
toward endogenous variable directly and indirectly, (3) describing the types of
parental engagement and school strategy to involve them in students’
character education. The research used mix-methods approach. The
respondents were 210 parents of SD Muhammadiyah in Yogyakarta. The
measuring tools used were parental engagement scale, positive parenting
scale, Islamic religiosity scale, and agreeableness personality scale. An
interview and a focus group discussion (FGD) were also conducted to parents
and principals in order to collect data. The result of data analysis using SEMAMOS
version 22.0 indicates that (1) the theoretical model of positive
parenting and agreeableness personality toward parental engagement in
students’ character education through religiosity mediator match or fit with
the empirical data, (2) there is a significant positive effect of religiosity
toward parental engagement, there is no significant positive effect by positive
parenting toward parental engagement, there is significant positive effect by
positive parenting toward religiosity, there is no significant positive effect by
agreeableness toward parental engagement, there is significant positive effect
by agreeableness toward religiosity, there is significant positive correlation
between positive parenting and agreeableness, (3) the parental engagement
are in the form of joining parents community in school, supporting character
education program that is included in the task assigned to students at home
and in school, attending school invitations, communicating and consulting
with the class teachers, and becoming the source of introduction to different
professions for students, and (4) the school strategies to engage parents in
character education are: socializing the importance of character education,
meeting the parents, cooperating with the parents in implementing character
education program at home.
