      Abstract
      Many people are judging that the national education considered failed in the forming of character and the moral of children of the nation. Schools as formal educational institutions should be able to instill the values of those characters to the students to be more appreciative, caring, cooperating, and tolerance in the existing pluralism. But the reality on the practice education in schools, teachers tend to promote mastery of aspects of knowledge (hard skill) rather than aspects of skills and attitudes (soft skills), whereas the soft skills aspect is an element forming the character of the students. Based on that condition, the purpose of this research were (1) found the concept of character education in psychology Islam; (2) identifying the process of students character formation through the Islamic education at AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool of Pekanbaru Riau; and (3) found the model of the character formation in Islamic education at AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool of Pekanbaru Riau. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, which aims to establish model of the character formation in Islamic education at AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool of Pekanbaru Riau. The collection of data is used, as is common in qualitative research are observation, interviews and documentation. The collected data were analyzed with interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The research result indicated that (1) the concept of character education in psychology Islam is an education to form (a) noble character (akhlaq mahmudah). The forms of this character such as patience, gratitude, sincerity, qana'ah, humble (tawadhu'), honest (sidq), generous (jud), trust, forgiveness, tolerance, etc; and (b) Despicable character (akhlaq madzmumah). The forms of this character such as irritability (ghadhab), kufr favors, riya ', greedy (Thama'), arrogant (arrogant), lies (kidb), stingy (syukh), treasonous, xiii resentment, envy, etc; (2) the process of students character formation through the Islamic education at AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool of Pekanbaru Riau conducted through the implementation of the AKSI (Application of Islamic Spiritual Activity) program, reading habbit activities (reading culture); and routine activities that contain of Islamic values; and (3) The model of the character formation in Islamic education at AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool of Pekanbaru Riau is a mixture of national high school curriculum in general plus curriculum which contains the values of the Islamic religion and also plus with curriculum support program that potentially to form the character of of students. At AS-SHOFA Senior Highschool this curriculum support program is the AKSI program, reading habbit activities (reading culture), extracurricular activities as well as Islamic routine activities
