Reading aloud technique has been implemented in language learning especially in learning pronunciation. This research aimed to explore the benefits and challenges of the implementation of Reading Aloud Technique (RAT) according to the students’ perspectives at English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The researcher employed descriptive qualitative design which used interview as the method in collecting data. In terms of participants, the researcher selected four students to be involved in this research. In selecting the participants, it was determined by their score in Capita Selecta on Grammar 2 class. There are two students with the high score and two students with the low score. In addition, the selection is also based on their availability for the data collection. The findings of this research revealed that there were seven benefits and challenges of RAT implementation in learning pronunciation. The benefits include helping students trigger and develop their prediction skill, helping students improve their confidence, providing opportunity for students to improve their pronunciation, helping students practice their expression, helping students improve their speaking fluency, and facilitating the students to enrich their vocabularies. Additionally, the challenges include coping under pressure and handling anxiety, understanding unfamiliar reading texts, reducing demotivation, adjusting with the time allocation, articulating the text loudly, and making appropriate face expression.
