dc.description.abstractTo provide conducive teaching and learning process, teachers are required to have various classroom management strategies. This research aimed to discover the classroom management strategies used by English teachers at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Pemalang. This qualitative research used interview involving two English teachers as the participants. The findings showed that the participants used several strategies in managing classroom. The first strategy dealt with the activities at the beginning of the class. They were greeting, singing, giving motivation, giving quiz, reciting Al-Qur’an, setting up classroom agreement, and calling the students one by one. The second strategy dealt with delivering the materials including selecting the materials, forming group discussion, storytelling, presenting, applying student-centered learning, and establishing communication approach. The third strategy dealt with students’ and teachers’ interaction by memorizing the students’ names, giving punishment, giving reward, finding out the students’ need, establishing first impression, monitoring students using portfolio, establishing students’ soft skill, and not forcing the students who did not understand the material. The last strategy dealt with the activities at the end of the lesson which covers giving summary, question and answer session, giving evaluation and motivation, and dismissing the class.en_US
