EKOLOGI MEDIA RADIO SWASTA GERONIMO FM DAN SWARAGAMA FM
Abstract
This research is about mass media competition between private radio
station in Yogyakarta that is Geronimo FM and Swaragama FM because both
stations are on Top Brand Radio Station in the city of Yogyakarta which has the
same type of format, audience segmentation and characteristic on the
broadcasting hour then the type of media content indirectly be the same that can
lead to competition between the two radio stations are in getting resources to
their support life. This study focuses on broadcast news programs that become
the seizure of life support sources between the two radio stations, because news
is one of the important elements in a radio broadcast media. To determine how
the level of competition in both the private radio station on the news program is
the category for news topics and categories circulation of news on the broadcast
date period August 1 to August 31, 2016 by using niche theory approach. This
research used content analysis methods to analyze the frequency of news topics
and news circulation. Furthermore, the data is calculated using the formula
Niche Theory to determine how dependent media of news programs (Niche
Breadth) and how big is the level of competition between the two media (Niche
Overlap) on the news topic category and news circulation category. The results
of this research indicate that the Niche Breadth of news topic categories on
Geronimo FM and Swaragama FM radio stations are in the category tends to
specialists and specialists. Niche Breadth from the news circulation category on
radio stations Geronimo FM and Swaragama FM are both in the generalist
category. Niche Overlap results in those two categories of the broadcast news
program with the value close to zero then the both private radio stations are
categorized have a very high competition.
