THE USE OF EDMODO IN AN EFL CLASSROOM: A DESCRIPTIVE QUALITATIVE STUDY
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the perception of the students towards the use of Edmodo in an EFL classroom. This research focuses on four main objectives; how students perceive the features of Edmodo, the activities that have been done in Edmodo, the benefits of Edmodo and the challenges that they faced when learning with Edmodo. This research was conducted at English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The descriptive qualitative design was used as a research method of this study. The data was gathered through the interview. The result showed that students had a positive attitude towards the use of Edmodo in an EFL classroom. The result also showed that students had a positive perspective towards the features of Edmodo such as many, varied, and easy to use. It was found that student perceived the features of Edmodo as similar to Facebook. It also revealed that the features of Edmodo facilitated students to learn. Regarding to the perception of the student towards the activities in Edmodo, this study found there are 7 activities that had been done in Edmodo and the students of EED of UMY had a positive perspective towards the activities such as interesting, varied, not boring and fun. Additionally, numbers of 8 benefits of Edmodo were found in this study. Nevertheless, this research also found that incompatible device and internet connection as major challenges that student faced when learning with Edmodo. In summary, it can be said that the research found that student resulted positive attitude towards learning with Edmodo in an EFL classroom.
