PERBEDAAN STATUS INDEKS PLAK PENGGUNA ALAT ORTODONTIK CEKAT ANTARA MAHASISWA DAN MAHASISWI FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN ILMU POLITIK UMY ANGKATAN 2017
Abstract
Background: A fixed orthodontic appliance is an orthodontic device that is fixed
directly to the teeth and can not be removed independently by the patient as an
alternative to dentofacial repair, and also increases the confidence of its users. The
intricate device design makes plaque which adhere difficult to cleaned. Patient
gender also influence the risk of caries, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
Objective: To know the difference of plaque index status with the Bonded
Bracket Plaque Index (BBPI) between fixed orthodontic appliance users to
students of Social and Political Sciences Faculty UMY 2017.
Method: (past) Type of research that has been done was observational analytic,
with cross sectional research design. The subjects in this study were active
students in the Social and Political Sciences Faculty 2017 using a fixed
orthodontic appliance for 1 to 2 years. Then the sample selection using non
probability sampling technique that was with total sampling technique.
Result: The highest plaque index score is 2 owned by female respondents and the
lowest plaque index score is 0.6 also owned by female respondents. The result of
statistical test on plaque index status between male student and female student
showed significant number 0,125 (p> 0,05).
Conclusion: There was no significant difference between plaque index score
(BBPI) occuring on students.
