GAMBARAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN MAHASISWA TERHADAP KEJADIAN BUNUH DIRI
Abstract
Background: Suicide has become a serious problem in world health community.
Suicide in Indonesia is high and increasing. WHO recognizes suicide as a public
health priority. The World Suicide report "Preventing suicide: a global imperative"
aims to raise awareness of the importance of public health from suicide attempts
and to prevent suicide. Nursing students are important to know about it so they can
maximize suicide prevention efforts.
Research objective: This research was conducted to know the description of
nursing student’s knowledge level towards the incidence of suicide.
Research method: This research uses quantitative descriptive method and crosssectional
approach. The sample in this research is 142 nursing students of class of
2015 and 2016 UMY. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The
instrument used is a questionnaire consisting of 30 statements with data analysis
using frequency distribution.
Result: Respondent from this research was dominated by nursing student academic
year 2016 with 74 respondents (52.1%), 104 female respondents (73.2%), and 52
respondents (36.6%) aged 20 years. The nursing student’s knowledge level towards
the incidence of suicide is good with 125 respondents (88%). The nursing student’s
knowledge level towards the incidence of suicide includes definitions, causes, risk
factors, warning signs, and phases in good categories while methods and
prevention are in enough category.
Conclusion: The nursing student’s knowledge level towards the incidence of
suicide is good with 125 respondents (88%).
