PERAN ANIMASI UPIN & IPIN SEBAGAI DIPLOMASI PUBLIK MALAYSIA TERHADAP INDONESIA
Abstract
Malaysia is a country famous for the world of Malay, Malaysia is a country that has multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic. In instilling tolerance and a sense of nationalism with its young generation, Malaysia develops values, norms, life, habits of Malay people through an animation that began in 1946. Besides aiming at continuing the value of Malay, the animation that has been produced aims to counteract the influence Western and Japanese animation, where these two countries have different values, norms and habits from the countries of Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.
Malaysian animation has also developed in the 2000s both in terms of animation quality and its development in the international market. In 2005 a successful animation company was established, namely Les Copaque Production. In 2007 the company created the Upin & Ipin animation series so that it successfully redeemed the international market and was very well known in Indonesia. Indonesia is a country that has the same values and norms as Malaysia, this is because Malaysia and Indonesia have the same historical development that creates a similar culture. Therefore Malaysia and Indonesia often experience sensitive conflicts, namely the recognition of cultural heritage.
Upin & Ipin animation is an instrument of Malaysian public diplomacy and is a new thing that has happened in Southeast Asia including Malaysia and Indonesia. It is evident that the animation of Upin and Ipin brings Malaysian value like the meaning of multiculturalism, promotes women's rights, until the addition of Susanti's character in this animation makes Malaysia give privilege to Indonesia as a form of friendship.
