Background: Smoking is still be a national problem that needs to be continuously strived to overcome . Along with the Indonesian health research results in 2010 showed the prevalence of smokers in Indonesia amounted to 34.7 % of the 237,641,326 people in Indonesia and 1.7 % of smokers start smoking at the age of 5-9 years, while 43.3 % smoked since adolescence is 15-25 years . Smoking behavior prevalence of today's youth and the average of cigarettes smoked by teenagers in the province of Yogyakarta province which is about 31.6 % . The number of teenagers who smoke one was the issue of parenting their parents are poor . Parents are an example and a model for teenagers , but for parents who know less about the health indirectly they have taught behavior or unhealthy lifestyle . Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between smoking status of parents and male students smoking behavior of Civil Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Methods: This research is quantitative research with cross sectional approach . Measurement of parental smoking status and smoking behavior using a questionnaire . Consecutive Sampling Sampling technique used by a number of respondents 70 people . Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho. Results: A total of 51 respondents ( 72.9% ) had parents who smoked and as many as 34 respondents ( 48.6 %) had the smoking behavior with strong category . There is a relationship between smoking status of parents of students smoking behavior ( p = 0.035 ). Conclusion: There is a relationship of smoking status of parents of male students smoking behavior of Civil Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta . Therefore , researchers suggested for further research in order to develop research related to factors associated with smoking behavior in adolescents .
