Background: Smartphone users by health workers are very high and it can cause cross contamination in patients with smartphones as intermediaries. The high number of germs on smartphones can be influenced by the attitude and behavior of hand hygiene Objective: To examine the relationship between attitude and behavior of hand hygiene to smartphone contamination in health workers. Methods: This type of research is an analytic observational study with cross sectional design on 84 health workers at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Yogyakarta Hospital. This research was carried out on Maret 2018- April 2018. Measurement of hand hygiene attitudes and behaviors was measured using a questionnaire while measurement of germ contamination using the streak plate method in microbiologi of FKIK laboratorium. Result: Analysis of results from 84 Respondents 64% women and 20% men obtained hand hygiene with low attitudes 0% not contaminated with germs 4.8% contaminated with germs on smartphones, hand hygiene with moderate attitudes 2.4% not contaminated with germs and 54.8% is contaminated with germs on smartphones and hand hygiene with high attitude 1.2% is not contaminted and 36.9% is contaminated with germs on smartphones. Data from low hand hygiene behavior is found 1.2% are not contaminated and 9.5% are contaminated with germs on smartphones , moderate hand hygiene behavior obtained 1.2% not contaminated and 50% contaminated with germs on smartphones and high hand hygiene behavior found 1.2% not contaminated and 36.9% contaminated with germs on smartphones. Conclusion: The variables of attitude and behavior of hand hygiene do not have a significant relationship to the contamination of germs on smartphone health workers.
