PENGARUH AIR RENDAMAN BUAH OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) TERHADAP KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL PADA TIKUS WISTAR JANTAN YANG DIBERI DIET TINGGI LEMAK
Abstract
Background : The used of natural materials as an traditional medication has been known for a long time by Indonesian peoples. Flavonoids in Okra estimated to be able to reduce total cholesterol levels in blood. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) fruit soaking water on total cholesterol level in high fat diet of male wistar rats.
Methods : An experimental study pre and post with control group design was carried out by 1,4 mL/200 grams BW/day quail egg yolk of male wistar rats. The sample divided into 6 groups. They were negative controls, positive controls, standard, and treatment groups given Okra fruit (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) from 0.18 grams (P1), 0.36 grams (P2), and 0.72 grams (P3) which are soaked in 3.6 mL of water.
Results : All groups there was a significantly different (p=0,000) mean decrease in total cholesterol level. The dose of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) in group P3 is the most effective for reducing total cholesterol level.
Conclusion : Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) fruit soaking water can reduce total cholesterol level in high fat diet of male wistar rats.
