STUDENTS’ PREFERENCE TOWARDS FEEDBACK GIVEN BY THE LECTURER AT ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
The recent study was to investigate what students’ preference towards oral and written feedback given by the lecturer on their journal writing activity. This study was also investigating students’ preference towards feedback in general. The researcher used survey design under quantitative approach. The data were gathered through questionnaire which consisted of 15 questions. The research participants were 108 students of EED of UMY batch 2014 from class A, B, C and D selected using cluster random sampling. To answer the research question, the researcher used descriptive statistic using SPSS program version 20. The findings showed that students of EED of UMY batch 2014 prefer written feedback rather than oral feedback since the total mean score of written feedback category (3.23) was higher than oral feedback category (2.94). The students of EED of UMY batch 2014 also agreed that feedback was important for them based on the result of feedback in general category.
