EED OF UMY STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCE IN WATCHING MOVIE WITH INDONESIAN AND ENGLISH SUBTITLES IN LEARNING ENGLISH
Abstract
Using English subtitle when watching a movie can be one of the learning tools for the students who want to learn a foreign language. This research aimed to find out the experience of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta students in using English and Indonesian subtitles when watching a movie to learn English. This study is a qualitative research using descriptive qualitative design. Four students of English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta became the participants for this research. The researcher used the interview as the data collection method. Open coding, analytic coding, axial coding, and selective coding were conducted to analyze the data. The first finding showed the usefulness of English subtitle in learning English. The second finding revealed the students understand better with English subtitle. The findings also showed that using English subtitle can improve the student’s English skills in vocabulary, pronunciation and listening
